The study of State Politics in India, which was neglected by the Indian scholars for long, has been receiving greater attention of late. This is largely due to the realization that for a proper under standing of the politics at the national level it is desirable to have an insight into the politics of the states. In fact each state of India provides with an unusual microcosm and macrocosm for studying process of development, which sharpens our understanding of the Indian Political System at the national level.
In view of the growing importance of the subject it is being introduced as a paper for the graduation and post-graduation courses of the various Universities of India. But there is no single book which covers the various aspects of state politics. In this book the authoress has made a modest attempt to present the basic facts about the state politics in a comprehensive and consolidated form. The authoress does not claim any originality. Her main effort has been to collect the vast material lying scattered in various books and journals and to present the same in a systematic manner, which may be easily understood by the students.
