As several of them have been out of print, and as there has been some demand for them, it appeared useful to have them published in one volume. The author is grateful to the publishers of the periodicals and books indicated in the footnotes and at the beginning of each essay for their generous permission to reprint the essays. He is also grateful to Asia Publishing House for undertaking the publication of the essays and for having published the book so handsomely.
