At home in India : a restatement of Indian Muslims.

Indian Muslims, though individually very expressive, have somehow failed to articulate a political strategy. Their leaders too have been conspicuously reticent. But an effective theory of Muslim rights in Indian democracy cannot be understood with an appreciation of the theoretical basis of equality and minority rights. Indeed respect for the Muslim claim can easily be mistaken for appeasement. This book purports to examine this theme and the questions which arise-Do Muslims need a Muslim leader? Why is there no such leader? Can Muslims resolve the conflict of progress and conformity? Is there a separate Muslim view?

At Home in India is an expression of public and private impressions about arguments and perspectives applied to Indian Muslims, their hopes and aspirations, their concern for cultural integrity and their exploitation. This restatement attempts to give the Muslim citizen a voice to claim a contribution in India's past, present and future.
