Summary: This - is• the third set of volumes in the well known series entitled Concept's International Series in Geography. This multi- volume set has a wide coverage under the title Perspectives in Urban Geography. The earlier two sets In. the series were; Perspectives in Agricultural Geography and Perspective in Geomorphology Traditional studies on aspects of Urban Geography had been concentrating on observational records of developments of towns and cities till the subject came to acquirea behavioural approach recently. What resulted was a new matrix of philosophies, methodologies and their ingenious application to what had been researched through the years. The present set of volumes ventures to make a rigorous survey ef the literature on Urban Geography after- its reorientation as it were. Urban geographers . have evolved a number of concepts and techniques to understand and articulate the nature of cities. Such concepts and techniques range from methods of descriptive or theoretical statistics to the construction of mathematical models. Urban models are considered a mechanism which governs the structure and behaviour of the urban system. With the advent of computer technology, there has been a sudden spurt in the urban modelling. The principal emphasis of the articles in the first part of the volume on Models in Urban Geography is on the tracing of the development of the models in urban geography and on evolving the . spatial organization of the contemporary cities. Most of the authors have investigated how man's interaction gives rise to urban structures. Most of the articles emphasize the preoccupation - of - the urban geographers with decision making and problem solving The purpose -of the second. part of the volume is to show how the principles of scientific methods are applied to the field of urban geography by examiflinq in a comprehensive way the use of mathematical model in a simplified, symbollc,: rational and logical representation of some natura! or artificial phenomena which inform the urban researchers and planners about he urban locational problems and the solutions,
