This book is based on a series of radio interviews for the Voice of America with 20 distinguished historians on the subject of
America's great crises of dissent. Coinciding appropriately with the Nation's Bicentennial observances, the series was conceived,
planned, and coordinated by Dr. Alien Weinste in, professor of history and chairman of the American Studies Program at Smith
College. The interviews center on episodes in the country's national past that dramatize various critical confrontations of major-
ity and minority rights.
