This, is a pioneering and comprehensive work on the subject based on origit al sources on the making of Constitutions. The thesis of the author is that the Preamble to our Con stitution is unique in its conception, formula on and paraseology. Compared to Prea noles 10 other written Constitutions it serves a more meaningful purpose. It is a key to the mind of the makers of the Indian Constitution rather than an allegorical embellishment.
The Preamble to our Constitution meant to epitomize the entire Constitution, being essentially the end-product rather than a basis of the Constitution.
The book makes a comprehensive study of practically every Preamble to written Constitu tions of the world. An attempt is also made to Classify Preambles and probe into their con formulation and phraseology. Three chapters deal with evolution of the Preamble to Indian Constitution; a survey of judicial attitude towards it and a detailed anatomical analysis of each word that finds a place in it. A whole chapter is devoted to removal of misconceptions about the Constitution in light of formulation of the Preamble. The author refutes the popular contention that founding fathers intended to have a federal framework for the country; that being so, there would be no case for state autonomy. The author asserts that unity and integrity of the country was far more important than anything else.
It is hoped that this mouogradh would serve the students of constitution law, political sciace, and jurisprudence as a useful guide and help them have u detter understanding of Indian Comstitution, its formulation and its subsequent working.
