Examining the status of SHG movement in Bihar as well as the impediments in its dynamics, it assesses the socio-economic impacts of SHGs on marginalized communities-scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, Muslims and women. Also, it reviews the role of Central and State Governments in strengthening the SHG movement. About the Author Dr. A.A.A. Faizi , a postgraduate from Patna University, is an officer of Bihar Administrative Service. He has served the state in various capacities. He has also worked as Additional Private Secretary to the Minister for Rural Development, Government of India. He is advisor to the HARYALI Centre for the Rural Development. New Delhi. Dr. Faizi has conducted several other studies including the NIRD sponsored Study on 'Functional Status of Women PRI Members : Problems and Prospects-with Special Reference to Muzaffarpur District,' and 'Poverty Alleviation Programmes-Future Strategies.'
