Here are Muggeridge's views on the accepted
values of today - on nudity on the stage; sex edu-
cation and religious education in schools; tele-
vision as maker – or ruin - of Presidents. His
alarming prophecies – some of them already ful-
filled - and his Cassandra-like warnings of the fate
attending upon the degeneration of Western man
make thought-provoking and often amusing
reading; and all his observations reflect the
changes not only in post-war society but also in
Muggeridge himself. So fluent and persuasive are
they that it is hard to believe they were uttered
unprepared in the bustling atmosphere of a live
radio discussion.
Michael Bowen, who compiled and edited this col-
