Autobiography of an economist

Lord Robbins' autobiography is the story of one of the leading economists of our time, and a many-sided man.
It describes his academic career. giving a detailed account of his life at the London School of Economics in which he has been student. lecturer, professor and eventually a member of the governing body. It also describes his public life, giving a personal view of some of the great economic and political controversies of the inter-war period. There is a fascinating account of his experiences in government service during the last war, when, as a member of the Economic Section of the War Cabinet Office he was involved in the central co-ordination of the war economy, and of Britain's post-war economic relationship with other countries, particularly America. He goes on to describe his activities as art administrator, at the National Gallery and the Royal Opera House, and as Chairman of the Committee on Higher Education, which produced the 'Robbins Report'; finally his experiences in business affairs.
Besides being the interesting story. of a most distinguished man. Lord Robbins autobiography throws much light on hitherto unrevealed episodes in academic and public life.
