This is a new impression, made available in order to meet the continuing widespread demand, of the Tenth Edition of this classic textbook. The book starts with an Introduction amounting to almost two hundred pages by the Downing Professor Emeritus of the Laws of England in the University of Cambridge. In this some of the modifications of the
constitution which the original author himself suggested are summarised and the application under modern conditions of the three principles which the author postu lated is discussed. The last version prepared by the author himself is then reprinted. The intention at the or providing an introductory text which does not s a summary, let alone a complete account, of co law is kept to.
