Summary: India is the land of controversies. Its ancient cultural heritage and prosperity have been responsible for battles and foreign invasions. Vast land, different seasons, fertile land and climatic conditions make it a prosperous country. Long coastal belt provides better opportunity for international trade. But, perhaps it is not enough for being a rich and prosperous country in today's conditions. We are still lagging behind in the race of development. After adoption of Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization in 1991, our international trade and its composition is changed. Our IT sector has achieved word level excellence. Out-sourcing agencies of India are market-leaders in so many countries including USA. Service sector is gaining its importance. Education, Hospitals, Banking and insurance, Hospitality and tourism are important areas where we have ample scope for development. Some of the problems of Indian economy are still unsolved. Moreover, we don't have any concrete plan to cope with them. Our growing population, unemploy ment, poverty, low per capita income, low share in world trade, low share in world export, agricultural backwardness etc. are pulling our legs. In present global conditions, the issues and options of Indian Economy are changing rapidly. This book is an effort of peeping into the current economic scenario. Eighteen selected research papers and articles are included in this volume to cope with new challenges of Indian economy.
