In the quest for control over nature man has mis-handled the environment. The United Nations has recognised this fact that unless and until governments of each State plans to manage the environment, conditions in the world are bound to deteriorate. The State governments are not capable of environmental management. Therefore, the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are coming forward to help in environmental management. These NGOs have become big organizations and they have the resources to make useful contributions in the management of environment. Democratic governments are encouraging NGOs to help in the management of environment. It is difficult to say with certainty as to how much contribution has been made by these NGOs in each state. The United Nations has through its various agencies tried to help these NGOS to work in the field of environment.
