Tools and techniques of planning

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: New Delhi; Allied; 1984Description: 174 pSubject(s): DDC classification:
  • 338.9 SIN
Summary: In this short study on planning the author raises the question whether the sophisticated techniques of planning evolved mostly in the industrially advanced countries of the world are relevant and applicable to the contemporary less developed countries. His view is that if these countries have at all adopted planning as the means to bring about rapid economic progress, they cannot lay aside the modern well tried techniques. But considering the inadequacies of their administrative system and the nature of their economy, it would be necessary to adapt the modern tools and techniques to suit their needs. In order to make such modifications in an intelligent manner it is obviously necessary to have a clear understanding of the basic principles underlying these techniques. The essays contained in this volume, such as macro-economic models, linear programming and optimization, input-output analysis, project evaluation and cost benefit analysis would be of interest and use to practical planners in government service and in private business as well as to students and teachers and other scholars working in academic institutions.
