International labour organization and its impact on India

Summary: The International Labour Organiza tion was created in 1919 by Versa illes Treaty as an autonomous institution to remove social injustice, and to standardize and improve the working and living conditions of working class among member nations. Previously, it was affiliated with the League of Nations and in 1946, it became a specialized agency of the United-Nations Organization. Due to its significant contributions in the field of peace it was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1969. In the present theoretical work, the author has attempted to study the origin, history, constitution and functioning of International Labour Organization, with special emphasis on the impact and influence of its main activity, i.e. the formulation and adoption of International Labour Standards in the form of conventions and recommendations on various aspects of Indian Labour Legislation.
