In our country, more than 75% of the total population live in the rural country side. Though the urban growth rate is tremendous over the last two decades mostly due to migration from rural areas, rural areas also have recorded some growth: due to natural reasons The sole reason for migration to urban areas is lack of living opportunities in the rural areas. Hence a lot of exercises are on the cards and some plans are under implementation through special programmes like IRDP, DPAP, SFDA. Mostly these Programmes are aimed at bringing growth through agriculture development as it is the single major resource in the rural areas. This resource, through its spread effects and linkages, can generate employment and income in the rural side.
In this book, a selected fifteen titles are discussed under three major headings : CONCEPT EMPLOYMENT,FARM STUDIES. The first seven titles deal with the Regional, Economic and areal planning for the development of the rural areas. The studies deal with Crittend areas' development under irrigation projects, at micro level. Some illustrations are also been provided to stress the point.
The employment aspect, in the overall rural development both in the farm and non-farm, is discussed with some empirical evidences under three titles.
