Summary: Indian Citizens have been equipped with the Right to Information since the last 10 years but still the level of awareness is not up to the desired mark. The Right to Information Act 2005 came into existence after prolonged deliberations as a result of mass movements in India though such rights were already in existence in other countries. The readers may find a large number of books in the market dealing with this subject but the question remained as to whether applicants, Information Officers and Appellate Authorities are finding solutions to their problems in those books. Besides giving knowledge about various provisions of the RTI act to the common citizens of the country for seeking information from public authorities, the implementation of the Act in letter and spirit is needed to be ensured. A great amount of responsibility lies on public authorities to publish information relating to their organizations suo-moto because the basic objective of RTI Act is to ensure that information relating to public authorities is available freely to the public. The authors have hands on experience in dealing with RTI matters in the capacity of CPIOs and PIOs with public authorities and they know very well what the problem areas are and what issues are relevant, up to the level of Chief Information Commissioner. In addition, they have also practiced as advocates in various judicial fora, therefore, their legal expertise and long experience right from the inception of this act has made the task easy to cover all aspects of RTI Act in such a manner that this book becomes quite handy for all stakeholders in finding solution to their problems. Situational problems, frequently ask questions with their answers, formats to be used and checklists as ready reckoner are the unique features of this book.
