Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon, The Living Legend of Law, so called by the International Bar Association. Prof. Menon is a great teacher, best administrator and a good human being. Simple living and high thinking are his virtues. When the disrepute of legal education was at its height and when in the yester years the Law commission of India chaired by Justice Setalvad said that ``the lawyers coming out of legal institutions were half baked parasites let loose on society``, there was a turn around in the 1980s. Legal education in the National Law Schools became the most sought after course and best legal minds were presented to the Nation. The Credit goes to Padma Shree Dr. N.R. Madhava Menon. He was the founder Director of the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, National University of Juridical Science, Kolkata and National Judicial Academy, Bhopal. It was the vision of one man who stood against all oods and brought the Indian Law Schools on the world legal map. He has always been a maverick. He has firm views on legal education. He says, `it is no longer enough to produce only legal pracititioners, but they have to be social engineers as well`.
