Summary: Ever since the implementation of the Right To Information Act, 2005, the interface between a faceless citizen and a Public Authority has changed complexion from the indifference to the interactive mode. Despite criticism of its misuse or abuse, the RTI Act has sown the seed for a silent social revolution in our democracy wherein citizens are able to demand and command transparency and accountability at one end and Public Authorities are de-conditioning themselves to let go off their mindset of official secrecy and exercise their obligation to disseminate information, at the other end. Experiences have been varied in these seven years since the birth of RTI. There is much to debate by different stakeholders who have implemented/observed/ studied/used RTI in their relevant capacities. This book endeavours to capture the spectrum of experiences in order to comprehensively bring together the significance of the RTI movement in our democracy which so far was not familiar with the two way interaction between a public servant and the common citizen. Experts, researchers, academicians, social activists, journalists, Information Commissioners and legal luminaries have contributed their thoughts to make this book meaningful to an array of readers. The book will serve to satiate curiosity about this citizen-friendly law for those who are not familiar to it; as a guide for the academic-minded; as thought provoking for researchers and analysts and; serves as a mirror to the seven year old RTI movement.
