Children in India : critical issues in human development / edited by Alfred de Souza

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: New Delhi; Manohar; 1979Description: 262 pSubject(s): DDC classification:
  • 305.23 CHI
Summary: There can be few people who would contest that the Inter national Year of the Child has succeeded in putting the child in the limelight on a scale never seen before and not likely to be seen again for some considerable time at least. The child: its needs and problems, as a child and as a future adult. One need not be unduly cynical or churlish even this far into the year to warn against undue optimism about its real outcome or its true results. As always, the proof of the pudding lies in the eating. It remains to be seen in the years to come what action has been deployed as a result of the Year to place services benefiting children lastingly on a higher level-what improve ments in policies, in commitments (including budgetary commit ments) will be achieved.
