Richard Cyert is one of the central figures in the development of the behavioural theory of the firm. His work has successfuly merged organization theory and economic theory, and he has generated an impressive output of significant empirical work.
This selection of some of his most important papers encompasses the gradual evolution of the behavioural theory of the firm from its beginnings as an approach to oligopoly theory. It provides discussions of a number of methodologies for industrial economics, including the empirical approach, the decision-making approach, and stimulation.
The volume concludes with two articles on the philosophy of economics demonstrating how it relates to the various methodologies, and indicating future directions for microeconomic theory.
