Summary: There is a growing recognition that rural enterprises based on rawmaterials derived from forests, either natural or man -made, have the potential to create jobs and provide income to rural people which remains to be fully exploited. In addition to providing direct benefits, these enterprises trigger backwards and foreward linkages and generate multiplier effects which are numerous. This publication seeks to illustrate these aspects of forest based rural enterprises with reference to Pakistan.
