Summary: While there is no dearth of books on Indian economy-in fact lately this subject has attracted considerable attention as is evident from the number of publications that have appeared in this area-there is still need for a volume which provides a compre hensive analysis of the various problems of the economy that have emerged as a consequence of planned development over the past three decades and which are supported by comprehensive statisti cal material. The present volume tries to fill up this gap. It includes selection of articles that have appeared recently in different journals, especially in the Economic and Political Weekly, as from this journal maximum selections appear in this volume. While selecting articles care has been taken that these as far as possible provide comprehensive treatment of a particular issue dealt with. It would have been almost an impossible job to cover each and every aspect of the economy in a single volume, yet I have tried to include as many papers of current interest as was possible. The volume covers areas like, structural changes in national economy; behaviour of savings and investment; the share of factors of production in national income over time; aspect of agricultural and industrial growth; the government's policy towards technical education and R and D; the nature of employment problem; the emerging pattern of Centre-State Financial relations; and the behaviour of Foreign Sector.
