PERHAPS the most remarkable phenomenon in the Indian economic administration since independence has been a phenomenal growth of public sector undertakings. Not surprisingly, therefore, the administration of these undertakings has become a subject of considerable interest to the students as well as practioners of public administration.
The volume has its own limitations in that it neither covers all states nor does it attempt to analyse all probable problem- areas of the public sector ; essentially, it is a modest effort with the primary aim of fulfilling a heuristic purpose and thus encouraging more comprehensive and intensive studies in this field of research.
