Summary: Beginning with the mid-forties, Asian countries have been going through a series of socio-political changes. To begin with, one after the other they began to emerge as politically independent nations, some after armed struggle, some after peaceful struggle and perhaps some through the self-abdication of colonial powers. The general picture, in short, was one of the explosive population, inadequate food supply, economic bankruptcy, increased unemployment , technological and industrial vacuum.
