By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: Bombay; Himalaya Pub.; 1984Description: 330p. : illSubject(s): DDC classification:

Summary: The term unsanctioned economy, is a generic term covering a wide range of activities and is a subject of interdisciplinary research. The failure to understand its protean quality.and its interaction with social, economic and political sub-systems has had a detrimental effect on the national economy. The dimensions of the subject are too vast to be covered within the compass of a few articles. There are papers iri this book which cover the various aspects, causes and consequences of unsanctioned economy, and discuss the dangers involved in its unrestricted growth. The complicated problem of the estimates of the size of the un sanctioned economy has been analysed in detail, and an examination has been made of several methodologies to arrive at these estimates. There is also a review of some sociopolitical, philosophical and other aspects of the problem. To resolve a problem into mere complexity is insufficient. Invocation is no substitute for cause and effect relationships. But the attempts at unravelling the polymorph perversity of the unsanctioned economy should have some uses and should assess the interplay of its various components and parameters. It is hoped that the variety of the opinions and explorations of several contributors in the field of unsanctioned economy will initiate and stimulate discussions on different aspects of the subject, generate constructive criticism and research, remove the communication gap and make the subject more widely understood.
