Government today is involved in so many ways with private business and industry that no apology is needed for a small text-book examining and describing as comprehensively as possible the Govern mental laws, policies and administrative controls affecting business and their interaction with business. The main purpose of this book is to present a broad understanding of the multi-faced manner in which business and economic life are shaped and regulated by Govern ment, the various forms of physical controls which have been adopted -in place of allowing unrestricted competition and free play of market forces-in order to protect and project public interest and also to guide private business towards certain preconceived national goals along certain desired channels. In doing so an attempt has also been made to stimulate a more general interest in the subject of Government and business than has existed in the past not only among students but among other groups and persons as well, so that with a background of facts and experiences at their disposal they themselves will have a broader base for developing their own ideas with regard to a desirable economic order, both as to the means and to the ends and an ideal role for Government in it.
