Summary: In the fields of value theory and of ethics we witness at present certain developments which hold the greatest possible promise for the future of an empirically orientated philosophy. Moore's analyses, the arguments of the deontologists, and the reinter- pretations suggested by the emotivists have cut the ground from under traditional theories and the traditional approach to ethics. We find ourselves at the threshold of a new era in value theory and in ethics-an era in which an integration of what is factually and logically tenable in the older views with the new insights can be achieved. We begin to envision possibilities of interpretation which may be as significant for value theory and for ethics as was Einstein's theory of relativity for modern physics. Both books here under review are significant contributions to this reorientation.
