The oirgin of the Indian National Congress is little known. It was nearly 150 years ago that the first Indian organisation, with a political purpose, was founded in India, and before the Congress was started in 1885, the Indian people had fifty years' experience behind them.
The present book is a continuous history of the Congress interpreting the events in political terms. In it the authors have succeeded to evolve a paradigm of nationalist history of India, which has remained until today somewhat basic to the study of
Indian history of 19th century upto the twenties of the twentieth.
