The Indian Association for the Study of Population (IASP) is indebted to Dr C.R. Rao, FRS, President of The Indian Econometric Society (TIES) for taking the initiative in organizing the Third Seminar on Data Base of Indian Economy devoted to discussion on population statistics. This proved an excellent collaborative effort. The two scientific associations owe their debt to the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) for their help in making the seminar a success.
The three-day seminar was held in the new complex of the Indian Statistical Institute at Sansanwal Marg, New Delhi, on December 29-31, 1974. The Seminar was inaugurated by Shri K. Brahmananda Reddy, Union Minister for Home Affairs. Shri P.N. Haksar, Chairman of ISI, chaired the inaugural session. There were five technical sessions devoted to the following themes:
Session I: Demographic Data for Social and Economic Planning
Session II: Labour Force: Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment
Session III: Mortality, Morbidity, Fertility and Family Planning
Session IV: Internal Migration and Urbanization Session V: Census and NSS Data
