Summary: The economics profession, as we who pursue it know, is strongly counter cyclical. Like suppliers of shoe repairs or intercity bus travel, suppliers of economic analysis enjoy a boom whenever the economy goes into a slump. In the sixties, students drifted away from economics in search of "rele vance." Today we do not have to go around telling students that economics is relevant-our rising enrollments show that they already know it is. Our job now is not to disappoint them. They come to our principles courses with simple, practical concerns and questions. We must be equipped to address those concerns and questions. That is what this book is all about.
