| Summary, etc. | This book attempts to fill a gap in the written material available in<br/>convenient form on contemporary governments and politics of the<br/>Middle East, one of the most complex, strategic, and explosive areas of<br/>the world. The first chapter deals with the import of Islam to Middle<br/>Eastern political institutions. In subsequent chapters a country-by-country<br/>approach is taken; analysis of the domestic situation in each country is<br/>combined with a description of the essential features of the international<br/>relations of that country, thus giving the reader the feel of the modern<br/>dynamics of the region. The final chapter underscores the political<br/>patterns which have shaped the Middle East, and ventures some assess-<br/>ment of the regional and international forces operating there. A selected<br/>bibliography is appended to the end of each chapter; a general bibliog-<br/>raphy will be found at the end of the book. |
