It gives information about law and procedure as well as about the results of earlier elections through a number of tables. The election manifestos of four important all-India parties, namely, the Congress, the Swatantra, the Communist Party and the Praja Socialist Party are also included in order that readers may know about their positions through their authoritative pronouncements.<br/><br/>The four articles which form the first part of the book portray for the readers the state of the country on the eve of the Election and, after analysing the programmes and policies of various parties and the progress made towards the establishment of parliamentary democracy, outline the likely course of development.
