520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This book is a compilation of the essays and articles on the major contemporary problems being faced by India. It contextualizes these problems in the global scenario. Since the decade of 1980s the rise of Hindutva politics and Ram temple issue has formed the backdrop in which the politics unfolds. RSS combine's sectarian politics has come up to threaten the democratic polity and values of India's freedom movement. The agenda of RSS, the concept of nationalism as propounded by its ideologue Golwalkar, the concept of Hindutva, judiciary's attempt to grapple with the word Hindutva, the RSS mantra of integral humanism in opposition to the process of social transformation of caste and gender relations, the prevalent social common sense amongst the broad layers of society, the contemporary controversies around the song Vande Matram, the phenomenon of God men and RSS cooption of Adivasis into Hindutva fold are taken for detailed analysis. The book also outlines the problem of Kashmir militancy and contours of peace process there. The collapse of Hindu Rashtra in Nepal is taken up for elaboration to understand as to what exactly happens to the weaker sections of society in a state ruled in the name of religion.

Another major threat being faced by the country comes from both the global and local scenario, the one of terrorism. The major causes of terrorism, those related to emergence of politics of control over oil resources in West Asia, unresolved ethnic issues, retaliation to communalism and lately that of 'competitive terrorism, are outlined. The implications and meaning of hanging of Saddam Hussein are also covered.

It finally focuses on the values which show hope for Indian polity and the course which the republic has taken during the last six decades.
