Summary, etc. | This book depicts the true picture of the life of nomadic tribes. The author has spared no stone unturned to reveal the reality of their life. These families sometime alone, sometime in small groups, travel from one place to the other in search of their livelyhood. And this process has been in practice for the thousand years. These families settle on the outskirts of the villages for a little duration and as soon as their demand is over they will leave the place. The life is miserable and they are not in a position to meet both ends.
Reasons which can be ascribed to this condition may be illiteracy, superstitions, poverty, unemployment and above all their ignorance or unawareness about the world. Wandering is in their life style. They are away from the main stream of civilization as well as of the society.
There are as much as 42 major and 183 sub tribal groups wander not only within India but out of the country also.
Gopal, Madaris, Gosavis, Kanjar Bhat, Gpyare Kanjar Gypsis, Banjaras, Davaris, Joshis (Kudbude) Pingale etc. along with Bahurupias, Paradhis and other Nomads live speak and behave in a different manner than a Common-man.
The author has analysed the welfare and development schemes about nomadic people in Maharastra in Particular and in general about rest of the other states. He has given some valuable suggestions for the improvement and betterment of the nomadic tribes.
This book although is a first attempt to high lighten the problems of nomadics but the author is sure that it would be found useful by so many other branches of learnings, e.g. social sciences and social workers. |
