Summary, etc. The book presents the findings of the author's research study on the working of the regional rural banks in India. It also presents a field report on the working of two selected regional rural banks as case studies. Based on the findings of this study, a set of recommendations is presented to the policy-makers for achieving more effectively the objectives for which the regional rural banks were set up.<br/><br/>The book is divided into five chapters and a postscript. Chapter 1 gives the back ground of the idea for setting up new rural banks, Chapter 2 summarises the major recommendations of the Working Group appointed by the Government of India to go into the of setting up new rural banks and to suggest the organisa tional structure and functions of such banks. It presents the salient features of the Regional Rural Banks Act, reflecting the action taken by the Government of India on the recommendations of the Working Group. Chapter 3 presents a field report on the working of two such regional rural banks, namely, the Haryana Kshetriya Gramin Bank, Bhiwani (Haryana) spon sored by the Punjab National Bank and the Jaipur Nagaur Aanchalik Gramin Bank, Jaipur (Rajasthan). Chapter 4 appraises the general working of the regional rural banks in India partly draw ing upon the findings of the field report on the working of the two banks cited in Chapter 3. Chapter 5 suggests a framework for the reorganisation of the working in order to enable them to achieve the requir ed objectives.
