Singh covers a popular theme. It is an attempt to examine the relationship between population and sustainable development. It broadly deals with the twin problems of overpopulation and underdevelopment to which most developing socieites are confronted with. These problme are relative and affect each other. The papers of this book touch upon almost every aspect of these tow interlinked problems. The aspects covered in this voluem are the cultural sustainability and overpopulation; the environmental problems of population; interlinkages between population, natural resources, living standards and technology; demographic changes and sustainable development; proper use of vast natural and human resources. About Author : Ehsanul Haq is a Professor at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He did his M.A. with distinction from Aligarh, and M.Phil./Ph.D. from JNU, New Delhi. He has been teaching at the post-graduate level at the Cetnre for more than 25 years and has produced a large number of M Phil/Ph.D. students. Sudhir Kumar Singh is currently project fellow, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata and visiting facutly, University of Delhi. His research interests include: terrorism, sustainable development, human rights, ethnicity, indigenous peoples rights, sectarian violence, women rights in Islamic world and drug-trafficking. He is currently working on diverse issues related to Pakistan, Afghanishat and Central Asia.
