Summary, etc. The present study on "Policy Competition among States in India for Attracting Direct Investment has been taken up by NCAER at the request of the OECD Development Centre. The mission of the project is to analyse the intensity of interstate competition to attract direct investment and identify the effects of this competition.<br/><br/>The study has been based on both primary and secondary data sources. The secondary data sources include Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Commerce, Reserve Bank of India, Economic Survey, World Investment Report and NCAER's own data bank. Computation of investor friendliness index and the two case studies on automobile and power sector are based on primary surveys.<br/><br/>Foreign Direct Investment flows have become important for recipient countries in a variety of different ways. Accordingly, developing countries have adopted various strategies for attracting such investments. Similarly, in large countries such as India sub-national units such as states have like wise adopted new policies for attracting investment.<br/><br/>This study has focused on the latter in the hope that it will add to the literature on foreign investment and also inform policy debate.
