Summary, etc. It is a matter of great pleasure to find this book in its Twentieth Edition While maintaining the originality of the book, the present edition has further been enriched with latest case-laws. The attitude of judiciary in expanding the horizons of personal laws, especially towards gender justice, with the help of constitutional provisions, continues to be evidenced in its decisions. In Ashok Hurra v. Rupa Bipin Zaveri, AIR (1997) SC 1266, the Supreme Court in its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution has granted divorce by mutual consent when it found that marriage subsisted in law despite complete break down of matrimonial bond since a very long period. In Jasbir Kaur Sehgal v District Judge, Dehradun, AIR (1997) SC 3397 the Apex Court has given new dimensions to section 24 of the H.M. Act.

The present edition incorporates all the relevant cases reported upto March 1998 and has thoroughly been revised without affecting the originality of the book. It is hoped that like its earlier editions, this edition too would prove its utility for the students of LL.B., L.L.M. and the examinees of competitive examinations.
