| Summary, etc. | THIS book has a double aim: it is intended to be of service to the university student pursuing a course of study on industrial organization; it is intended equally for the general reader who is interested in problems of industrial structure and development.<br/>The book is divided into two parts. The first part deals with certain general problems bearing upon the structure of industry; the second describes the growth and the present position and problems of six of our major industries, namely, cotton textile, jute, sugar, iron & steel, coal and tea. The developmental programme asenvisag ed in our five Year Plan for these industries has also been indicated. The discussion in the second part relates events and developments up to the end of 1953.<br/>This study is essentially an introductory one. Within such a short compass, it has not been possible to deal with problems at great length or even with all problems. |
