Summary, etc. The study is a comprehensive critique of the economic reform programme for India, as delineated by the World Bank/IMF combine. The Government is trying zealously to implement it to bring about what is euphemistically called structural adjustment and globalisation of the Indian economy. The author shows by detailed and penetrating analysis that what is being attempted is not reform but a massive and drastic retrogression of the Indian economy, society and polity. The author believes that a thin upper crust in India's economic and social struc ture, the comprador big business and its hangers on among politi cians, bureaucrats, professionals and intelligentsia is actively associated with the neo-colonial designs of G7 for India. It is a dangerous nexus. A radical realignment of social and political forces, therefore, is imperative for India to regain the autonomy of its socio-economic development process and preserve its political independence. This is a controversial book. The issues raised are of the utmost importance and call for a wide-ranging national debate.
