Summary, etc. | The aim of this series of texts is to form a comprehensive treatment of modern economics. Each volume is integrated and cross referenced to the others in the series. This method avoids the limitations both of massive general texts into which a single author compresses the wide range of economic theory and policy; and of an unintegrated series, in which a collection of separate works are given a superficial resemblance by the attachment of a 'brand' label. Each volume also provides an original presentation of its subject. Excessive concentration on the more arid aspects of economic theory is avoided, and the relevance of economic prin ciples to social and political problems is emphasised. However, difficult and advanced aspects of theory or technique are not avoided; rather, the authors face up to the problem of explaining them in language students can understand. Early volumes are designed so that students coming to economics for the first time can obtain a sound understanding of basic principles. The series emphasises macro economics, growth economics, and international and social economics. |
