Summary, etc. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of Tehri Dam is a complex task. The book Environmental Impact Assessment of Tehri Dam consist of a brief account on various fundamental natural resources and their interrelationships with each other, intrinsic and inherent qualities of each play a critical role in compatability and feasibility of irrigation and power project construction at Tehri. It focuses additional insights into the fragile mighty Himalayan environment encompassing geologic features, regional tectonics, river systems, glaciers, landforms, soils and vegetation in toto. It also covers very critically the Bhagirathi and Bhilangana catchment or watershed characteristics in order to throw some additional light into the degradation, sedimentation characteristics and lifespan of the reservoir. First part of the book provides a wide account on various natural resources including climate in the Tehri dam catchment area. It also covers general tectonic features of the entire region with special reference to Tehri Dam location.<br/><br/>Second part of the book contains running com mentary on various live issues under debate. Es sentially covering mounting antagonism towards big dams with reference to Tehri Dam in specific. It starts with seismic risk evaluation of Tehri Dam, and ended up with lifespan of reservoir covering rehabilitation of Dam oustees, cost benefit ratio, deforestation, receding glaciers, and so on. The remarkable feature of the book is that it consists of various expert opinions claims of Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) and counter claims of hill environmentalists in general. Further it is having separate chapter on general discussion, in which Tehri Dam is correlated with other large dams in India and various facts of large dams in India are thoroughly discussed.
