Summary, etc. REGIONAL PLANNING was first published in 1969. Until very recently it was the only book on the subject for students and specialists alike. As the fields of regional planning, regional development, regional science and microlevel planning grew in prominence, the utility of the book increased and it soon became a classic.

It has been out of print for a long time. Part of its contents which reflected the state-of-art of the discipline at the time of its first publication, became dated. Nevertheless, students continued to read and consult it. On persistent demand from teachers, researchers and students, the volume has been revised. The revised edition contains a good number of new chapters written by scholars who entered the field in the 1980s. Less relevant and dated chapters were taken off. Among the chapters retained, there are some which are dated in terms of data but are useful from the point of view of theory, technique, or policy.

In order to cover all important dimensions of the field, the volume as earlier is divided into four parts: (1) Concepts, (2) Techniques, (3) Policies, and (4) Case Studies. It defines regional planning in global as well as local spatial perspectives, extends its scope to multinational regions, and brings it down to the local level micro-regions. The volume is an unmatched Indian contribution to the growing field of Regional Planning.
