Summary, etc. The relationship between economics of education and development planning has been neglected by most writers in the field of educational planning and present administration. The volume thus attempts to provide insights into possible approaches to the problems of developing countries in the field of planning, change, growth and development in education. It applies relevant concepts to critical areas of educational planning, such as (1) programme planning and development in the institutional set-up; (ii) the projections of enrol ments; (iii) identification of levels of teacher demand and requirements; (iv) budgeting, and (v) physical (resource) planning and development.
This book will thus serve as a practical guide on the continuing dialogue on development concerns in education. In doing so, economic rationalisation is examined against the overall expectation of society for free education, or welfare and consumption education. However, the path to future development is left to individual societies, although essential parameters are indicated.
The value and use of this book would extend beyond students and scholars of education to educational planners, policy-makers and development economists in Third World Countries.
