Summary, etc. | With the fast industrial growth especially in the post-independence era, the subject of Indus trial Relations has assumed greater relevance than ever before. We have made a commitment to get to the front rank of the comity of nations before the 21st century, and industrial develop ment is one of the means of doing so. We have to plan our industrial relations system so that development takes place in the right direction.<br/><br/>This important book has emerged out of proceedings of a U.G.C. National Seminar on 'Planning for Industrial Relations in the 21st century organised by the Department of Commerce and Business Management, Panjab University, Chandigarh on March 20 and 21, 1987. Eminent scholars in the field of Industrial Relations presented their papers. The parti cipants included leaders from industry and commerce, Government and trade unions, and academicians from the universities and institu tions of higher learning.<br/><br/>The book is divided into four parts (1) Industrial relations in the 21st century issues and challenges, (ii) Trade unions-the new responsibilities, (iii) Management-The task Ahead, and (iv) The role of the Govern ment. The papers presented explore in detail the weak spots and the points of strength in contemporary industrial relations in the country and endeavours to chalk out an action plan for working towards healthy industrial relations in the 21st century.<br/><br/>This outstanding book will be of great use to scholars and students of business manage ment and industrial relations, managers and executives of private and public sector, Government and semi-Government depart ments, institutions and organisations, and to planners and policy-makers. |
