Summary, etc. | The Book discusses comprehensively<br/>the concept of modernization and<br/>shows how changes in social norms,<br/>values and role-structures are the<br/>basis of modernization. The chief<br/>aim of the work is to bring into light<br/>the extent and quality of changes<br/>which have occured in the Muslim<br/>families; in their institutional comp-<br/>lex, and its effect on the status and<br/>role of these Muslims.<br/><br/>The underlying question under con-<br/>sideration was to what extent has<br/>post independence efforts at econo-<br/>mic development and modernization<br/>helped or hindered this process of<br/>modernization in this community. It<br/>also probes into their value system<br/>and aspirations in the light of their<br/>educational, economic, and industrial<br/>development. Various factors which<br/>influence the degree of secularization<br/>and their political modernization such<br/>as the educational, economic factors<br/>and the mass-media etc. have been<br/>co-related. The status of Muslim<br/>women and their political awareness<br/>and political commitment have been<br/>separately discussed. It also sug-<br/>gests the prospects and possible<br/>direction for further changes.<br/>The work presented in this book had<br/>originally been written for the docto-<br/>ral thesis. It mainly centres around<br/>the Muslims in the clty of Jaipur.<br/>The entire work is being sustained<br/>by the emperical data collected over<br/>the period of three years by the<br/>author herself add to the richness of<br/>the book. |
