Summary, etc. | The regional planning for social develop ment in its applied perspective is an endeavour to ensure an optimal spatial organisation of the society. The present state of spatial distri bution of the basic pursuits of social develop ment, in a developing country like India, needs planned reorganisation of infrastructural facilities. Since the absolute reorgonisation of the present day physico-cultural landscape on the basis of fresh-end planning is not at all possible, diagnostic planning approach is the answer to resolve the problem. A diagnostic regional planner immensely needs the systema tic knowledge of the concepts of spatial organisation, the most appropriate methods, techniques and approaches for identifying the existing distribution of space realities with the locational determination of the functional gaps in a district level micro-regional unit. The present work provides a clear vision of the concepts and applied approaches of deve lopment phenomena, and their application to Bulandshahr district (UP) taken as an example of a micro level regional unit, for ensuring most appropriate priority based spatial organisation of social development.

This book is an outcome of applied analyses with a certain methodological frame work to help not only the research scholars and teachers of Geography but also the regional planners, economists, sociologists, public administrators, politicians and volun tary agencies dealing with the problem of regional planning for social development in India. |
