It critically narrates <br/>the rise, growth, differentiation and election performance of the political parties. The analysis has been related to the social base <br/>of politics, and inferences have been drawn on the extent of political modernisation. The dynamics of party system show that <br/>factionalism, defection, corruption, ideological ambiguity, leadership conflict etc.continue to be the inherent weaknesses of <br/>almost all the parties. But they have also contributed towards a process of political development as well. They have worked <br/>towards a definite change in the level of political socialisation, interest articulation, interest aggregation and political communi- <br/>cation of the state. There have been periods of political stagnation, uncertainty and instability in the state. However, this is <br/>not a contribution of an inefficient party system only. |
