Summary, etc. | The sincerity of the Government in pro moting the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and other backward classes is amply borne out by various welfare measures taken for the purpose during the three and a half decades of our independence. But no scientific effort has been made so far by any agency to analyse the process of absorption of these welfare measures by these backward communities. The informa tion in this respect is vital to the success of Government's welfare measures, as also for the integration of these backward sections into the mainstream of Indian social life.

The present volume attempts an empirical study of the impact of the various welfare programmes on the backward communities of India with special reference to the scheduled castes. The book also attempts to identify the factors in the sub-cultures of these communities which contribute to the differential attitudes and behaviours towards welfare programmes which, in turn, contribute to differential impact on them. The study is intended to attempt a deep insight into this problem, which could be of special use to the policy makers, planners d administrators engaged in ameliorating the ot of the Scheduled Castes. |
