Its significance expands well beyond regional geography, urban planning and housing policies etc., into prob lems of law and order, conduct of national integration and management of human relations. Not only demo graphers and urban specialists but other social scientists are now finding migration to be an area of absorbing and sustained academic interest.<br/><br/>This book brings together twelve essays focussing on the historical, demographic and sociological dimen sions of migration. A wide range of migration situations from the rural--rural to international explored are and many conceptual, theoretical and empirical aspects of the phenomenon are explored. The principal focus of analysis throughout is on human aspects of migration- poverty, deprivation and subsistence. The book constitutes by its multi disciplinary perspective a pioneering contribution to the sociology of mig ration and will be useful for social scientists as well as administrators, politicians and social workers. |
